Day Off

Today, Dave had a day off in PT/OT, so we slept in and I went shopping! Just picked up a few necessities and then picked up a girlfriend who had to drop off their rental car. Now they are without a vehicle and she has to go to work in Alexandria everyday on the Metro. Dave did his thing, sleeping and getting ready to smoke a cigar tonight on the veranda.

Tomorrow night we will have dinner at the Capital Hill Club, I am a little embarrassed to go there with the group from the MH, last week at dinner people were in Tshirts and jeans or athletic shorts. So this should be great:

"Dress: Members and guests are courteously requested to observe the following regulations regarding dress at the Club. Gentlemen will please wear coats and ties in the Main Dining Room. Coats with sport shirts will be acceptable throughout the other areas of the Club. Current trends dictate the acceptability of ladies’ high-fashion attire. (House Rules of the Capital Hill Club)

No I didn't push Dave out of his wheelchair, today in OT he did chair to floor and then back in the chair transfers all by himself.

See the rock wall in the background? Dave is going to climb it tomorrow......just kidding, he wants to though!

Ramblings....

I took a 5 hour nap this afternoon so I am wide awake right now thinking of all the things I did not get done today that I will be doing tomorrow. Wednesday we have a super busy day. We will go to our first Amputee Clinic appointment, then OT, PT and our therapy session. I have been seeing a psychiatrist/psychologist and it really helps to let it out to someone and get feedback. There is no handbook that tells you what to do or how to do it, I am just doing and according to the Doc, I am doing pretty well. Dave is going with me because, well I am making him, but he needs to open up too. There is so much that we are learning to do differently and it gets tough. Part of me wants to do everything for him and "protect" him and the other part of me thinks he needs to be more independent. (Sigh)

One day at a time.....

PS- Dave is now on Facebook! He broke down and joined up the other day, I can't believe how people find you so quickly!

What we've been up to:

Dave was "released" on Tuesday and we (I) have been super busy ever since. For those of you who had not seen Dave's collection of backpacks and quilts, you don't know how much I had to carry, it took a few trips in the days before he was released and then 2 trips on Tuesday. So far I have unpacked everything and caught up on all the laundry. I am still working on organizing the room. We moved into a suite ( which is a little bit larger and has a small kitchenette) over the weekend, so I am still trying to figure out where my stuff is too.

Today at OT Dave got into the back of the Land Rover and scooted into the back seat. We put 2 seats down and left the one up so he can sit and have his leg stretched out. He has to go in from the very back, its kinda funny....but now we will be able to drive to the baseball game on Sunday, yes we got more Presidents Club seats and a parking tag, so we dont have to stuff Dave into the back of a taxi!

Here are some pictures of our new room and Dave's leg:
Yes that is Dave doing his thing......sleeping!

Happy Birthday David!

Happy Birthday to the most wonderful man in the world! I love you so much!

Here are a few updates:

1. My jaw problem turns out to be my Masseter muscle, not my jaw. The Dr. gave me muscle relaxers and they have really done the trick, its a little sore but otherwise pain free now!

2. Dave got a night pass last night and stayed over at the Mologne House with me. We actually felt normal for a night.

3. His knee is really bothering him, it swells up with fluid and is very painful. The 2 pins below it leak and are very red. They started him on antibiotics again.

4. He may be released on Monday or Tuesday as long as his knee is OK.

5. Yesterday was his first shower in 3 months.

I am heading over there shortly to pick up orders, make an appointment, and stay the night with Dave.

Take me out to the Ball Game (and out of the Hospital)

After a disappointing start....the cab blowing us off and just not picking us up....we had an amazing time! We ate a wonderful meal before the game, the Presidents Club is definitely the way to go! Then had a great time watching the ball game, Dave's expressions say it all:

Big News

David will be wearing this tomorow night:

When we use these babies:

Oh yeah, you read it right, Presidents seats courtesy of the MATC. We are very excited!

AHHHH!

That's a good Ahhh, as in a sigh of relief. Our good friend Marilyn and I had a nice chat this morning and she sent me this verse:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Today has ended up being a really good day! I worked out my new jaw appointment with the oral surgery clinic, Dave had an AMAZING day at PT, AND my mom really came thru with the car situation. A guy my Dad plays golf with has a lot that mainly sells over the internet, so my mom dropped off the car there today and things are looking great to get it sold soon. This is a HUGE weight off my shoulders, just knowing things are in the works.

And the Subway lady got it right today :)

Things I need in my life today......

Instead of going to the hospital after ATTEMPTING to get things worked out (bills, the car, random BS), I have been slacking at the computer, without further ado, I present things I need in my life today to prevent any further meltdowns:

and last but not least, this guy:

Yesterday David thought I was going to rip my shirt off and transform into the Hulk when I discovered the Subway lady put mustard on my sub instead of mayo. Its the little things people......

New Pictures

Here are some new pictures of Dave's legs and wrist. Today was a nice relaxing day.....laundry-mine at the MH, then Dave's at the hospital, pin care, and some dinner. I am looking forward to a positive and productive week!!!

Everything is healing well, you can barely even see the scar on his wrist! His pin sites are doing better, but that is due to the expert nursing care he is receiving :)

The skin graft is doing well, I took these pictures in the middle of a dressing change. We need a few more layers of skin to be built up, and then it won't look quite so much like a football and more like regular smooth skin.

Thank you for all the positive comments, I am hanging in there.....looking forward to David's birthday on the 14th!
