Video Of Dave's First Steps

This is the video I tried to post awhile ago, it was easy when Gene did it....

Dave Walking Video!

This is Dave walking today.

Dave and Gene

You can really see how far his leg bends now!

Friday, September 25, 2009

Dave's surgery went really well, they got about 120 degrees of bend to his knee. Pre-surgery he was only getting about 20 degrees. He will be on Ward 57 until Monday, for pain control and so he can be in the CPM machine, which will keep his leg bending all the time.

We are really looking forward to Gene coming to visit us next week. Gene is the guy in the picture up there with Dave. He was the first person to come to Dave after the landmine went off. Gene saved Dave's life by running in without regard for his own safety (there could have been more landmines in the area) and putting the tourniquets on Dave's legs.

We also got a visit yesterday from Tim and Ryan, Barksdale EOD guys who were in Afghanistan with Dave!

Pentagon Trip

We met Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, he stood next to Dave during the ceremony and gave Dave his coin,

We had such awonderful time at the Pentagon! We meet General Schwartz again and his lovely wife.

It was so fun just to be in the building, we would really like to go back and see some more one day!

Busy Schedule

The next few days will be pretty busy for us, tomorrow Dave has an amputee clinic apointment, OT, PT, then he meets with his prosthetist after. Since Dave is walking more, his leg needs to be adjusted so it fits better and doesn't hurt him. Thursday we are going to the Pentagon and Dave will be helping to hang the new Air Force Battle Streamers and a reception after. Friday is not so bad, then Saturday I am hosting a bachelorette party for one of the girls here. Just a few of the girls around here going out, nothing too big. So it should be a fun weekend!

Rant of the day:
The Mologne House is having a scheduled hot water outage (again) tomorrow. This will be the 4th "Annual" hot water outage since I arrived here in May! Grrrr.... It always takes 2 more days then they say to actually get really hot water again. Just frustrating!

Happy of the day:
Janelle and Marty, friends from Shreveport, came to visit us tonight!

Its a blanket with sleeves.....

On Sunday, David and I went to the mall down the road to poke around, here is what he got:

Yesterday Dave walked the parallel bars again and did some turns instead of going backwards.

Wounded EOD Warrior Golf Tournament

Dave had a great time at the golf tournament, he was able to ride around all 18 holes with my Dad, his foot fit in the cup holder of the golf cart!

Thursday, September 10, 2009

We have just been doing our thing the past week....Not too much to tell. Dave walked the Parallel Bars 7 times today at PT. Slowly but Surely he will get there....Sept. 25 he is going in to have another surgery to crank his knee and remove the scar tissue that has built up from not moving it in 4 months, yep thats right 4 months on the 17th. It has really set in that we are going to be here for awhile since the weather is already changing to COLD. Yuck! Luckily my Mom brought up some fall stuff for us when she and my Dad came up today. I am thinking my Mississippi blood may need a full snowsuit in the next few weeks. BRRR.....

My Dad and Dave are driving to Virginia in the morning for the Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation Golf Tournament. My Dad will be playing and hopefully Dave can get out there in a cart and swing a club. He is really excited! My mom and I have to stay around because Dave pretty much takes up the whole car, between him, the chair (which by the way is pretty heavy) and the leg pieces that come off AND throw in my Dad's clubs.

We can always find places to poke around Silver Spring for the day. Then Saturday we are going to try and have the Girls Day to the Leesburg Outlets- J. Crew, Burberry, Brooks Brothers, Polo, Saks Off 5th, Lacoste, etc. Hopefully I can find the Burberry Quilted Jacket I have been coveting on sale! Or at least the Outlet version.

Its so nice when we have visitors, it really lifts Davids spirits, so if anyone else wants to brave the cold--we have Hero Miles we can use! Just let us know!

Guess where I'm going tonight?

Yay! Jimmy Buffet! Unfortunately Dave does not feel up to the concert, but he is very understading that his Parrothead wife REALLY wants to go! A few of the girls from the MH are going, so it should be an AMAZING time!

Dave Walking

David walked today on the parallel bars, I took a video with his Iphone, but cant get it to upload. Not sure if its me or the crappy Mac computer.

Johnny Demon, I mean Damon, was in the MATC today. Dave was very excited, but I am not over him abandoning the Sox.

Hopefully I can figure out the video thing!
