Not even sure what to call this....

So over the weekend Dave and I attended 2 amazing events put on by the American Veterans Center, everything was first class! Last night was the final event, a Congressional Reception for OIF/OEF veterans. Sounds great, until the Congressmen and the entourages show up. I won't go into full detail but here are a few snippets from the mouths of our congressmen:

"Air Force? Really? Do they really get hurt?"
Ugh YES!

"Air Force? What do you do over there?"
Ping Pong

"Air Force? Oh did your plane get shot down?"
Maybe your not aware, but not everyone in the AF is a pilot????

"Wow your leg is about is ugly as your face"
No kidding, someone actually said that to us!

"Oh did you get hit by one of those IUD's?"
Yes sir, those inter uterine devices are killing too many Americans over there.

Ladies and Gentlemen-Your Congressmen! I have so much to say and don't even know where to begin. Needless to say we left early, I was pretty mad about it last night but know I am just disgusted that these people obviously have no clue!?

I am amazed daily how uninformed people are in our country. Maybe because my husband has been depolyed & we're a military family etc... But these stupid comments are totally insensitive.

sometimes I wonder if people even remember our country is at WAR?

I am sure that you & David will experience things like this for sometime- just remember there's just a bunch of dumb-ass people out there.

Wow...no words. So sorry you had to deal with ignorance.

Liz,

These sorts of comments are exactly why your blog is so important...Dave's story, and the stories of the other brave Airmen in harm's way, need to be told. Your story as an Air Force wife is very important, too. God bless you for what you're doing!

My dad spent 22 years in the Air Force.
When I think of the Air Force, I think: "Thank GOD we have them to save our grunt ass. They flew us out of Baghdad in 05, and that was the best day of my life!.
The Air Force is just smarter, that's all."

I'm sorry. Please do not think Dave and your heroism and dedication to this country are diminished in any way by insensitive (and unfortunately uninformed) comments by individuals in Washington. I hope you use your opportunity at the ballot box to audit your representatives' remarks.

Some people don'tknow enough to keep their mouth shut. Yes, that is a sampling of our great government in action. Sorry you had to endure that. Dave, we think you and your wife are HEROES!

Oh...yeah...I forgot during the Gulf War (often called "The First Gulf War")
Lots of folks told me: "Oh, the National Guard, they never go anywhere, they don't do anything...."

Write this down: The CI-Roller, who's been a cop for 30 years, been to 2 floods, and earthquake, riot, drug interdiction, 2 deployements and 3 county fairs...
here by declares your son, an Airmen, to be an honest to God true HERO.
If anybody cares to challange that, I will arrange to have an asswhoppin' at my expense.
And, if I get the honor to meat your son someday, I would be proud to shake his hand and buy him a beer.

That makes me sick! How awful! I'm so sorry that those men (who I would have expected to be way more sensitive and, I don't know, informed) ruined what should have been a special night for the two of you.

So sorry you guys had to deal with such ignorance. Unbelievable, yet not.

Un frickin believable!! They should all have to be a part of the military for at least a few months. Without their handlers too. ON THEIR OWN. Makes me so mad!!!
Wish we could have all been there to put them in their place!

They live in a bubble of stupidity! The rest of America greatly appreciates the sacrifice that you and Dave and all the other wonderful people have given for our freedom.

WoW! That's a great re-cap of some riveting conversation. I'd be giving these people the wide-eyed blank stare, like "R U Serious with this". I'm sure between the two of you, some of them were set straight in as tactful way as possible. I know what the AF does!

I am so sorry you had to deal with those kind of idiotic/rude/insensitive comments! I was raised by two Air Force parents and it shocks me how many people don't understand/appreciate what the Air Force does.
Please tell me someone corrected the idiot with the last one though!
